Questions
What parents ask before they call
Plain answers to the questions Rogelio hears most. Your own case may differ, so ask at the first meeting.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Rogelio and Maite both do. You can switch between English and Spanish whenever you like, and you’ll get your papers explained in either one.
What does the first meeting cost?
It has a set fee, which Maite tells you when you book. If you hire us, it counts toward your case.
How do you charge after that?
It depends on the case. Some are a set fee, others are billed by the hour against a deposit. Either way, you get it in writing before any work starts.
Is what I tell you private?
Yes. What you tell Rogelio about your case stays confidential, whether or not you hire him.
Can we meet by video?
Yes. Many parents meet from their phone during a break at work. Court hearings may be in person or by video, depending on the judge.
Do I have to go to court?
Not always. Cases that settle may need only a short hearing, or none. If you do go, you won’t go alone.
I’m not a citizen. Is it safe to go to family court?
Family court decides family matters, not immigration status. If you’re worried about immigration, say so, and Rogelio will tell you what to consider.
What if I can’t afford a lawyer right now?
Call anyway. Some cases can be handled in parts, and if yours isn’t a fit, Maite can point you to the court’s self-help center or legal aid.
Ask Rogelio the one that’s missing
Ask it by phone or through the form. Maite answers both.
